深港城市建筑双城双年展(UrbanismArchitecture Bi-city Biennale, UABB, 中文简称:双城双城展)是由深圳市人民政府主办,市规划和国土资源委员会、市文体旅游局、深圳广播电影电视集团、深圳报业集团和深圳大学共同协办,与香港进行跨城合作,目前全球唯一以城市建筑为主题的国际性双年展。
双城双年展以城市化为长期固定主题,以城市发展和建筑活动为线索,以城市空间和人文环境为载体,采用时代技术和艺术的表现方式,将先锋理念和现实关怀相结合,展示中国及世界城市化进程中政府和公众所关注的城市规划实践、建筑设计思潮、绿色生态的环保行为、技术创新的成果以及和谐社会文化建设等各种伴随社会转型所产生的城市活动和过程,并探讨和交流在时代精神阐释下的城市问题研究、趋势判断和方向把握的观念,具有专业性、学术性和公益性,为两年一度常设性的国际文化活动。展览每届主题关注着中国城市化发展进程的方方面面,包括但不局限于:1、关于城市生活,空间,文化;2、关于城市的时间性和发展速度;3、关于城市空间的人性化尺度;4、深港、珠三角乃至中国城市化热点议程;5、全球城市进程的重要和前瞻议程等等。
继2005首届深圳城市建筑双年展采用了策展人独立负责制以来,先后聘请了国际著名华人建筑师张永和教授和马清运先生,跨领域的文化实践者欧宁先生、国际著名策展人Terence Riley先生、策展人及实践者Ole Bouman 先生, 知名学者李翔宁先生以及Jeffrey Johnson先生,评论家、策展人Aaron Betsky先生,知名学者Alfredo Brillembourg先生&Hubert Klumpner先生和建筑师刘珩女士分别担任六届双年展的策展人,并分别以“城市开门”、“城市再生”、“城市动员”、“城市创造”、”城市边缘”、“城市原点”作为展览主题,探讨深港及全球城市的各种问题。六届深圳双年展的成功举办,体现了与深圳特区创办建设一脉相传的开放态度、创新精神和探索勇气;为深圳初步构建了一个国际城市与文化艺术交流的平台,探索了建立按国际惯例运作、具备国际水平的艺术展览制度的可能;为提升城市的文化竞争力做了有益的尝试。

█ 策展人资质要求:
申请人应是策展方案之策展人。团体申请人可以是国内/国际策展人组成的执行团队。申请人如有以下经验和资源将优先考虑:
对中国尤其是深圳的城市发展有一定了解,并对深港发展有独到的见解,能及时响应时下热点。
具备丰富的国内外设计或建筑展览策划、筹备及执行经验;
具备建筑背景以及对城市化问题的关注及独到见解,能从普通的建筑模型展览中脱离,用艺术、大众通俗的方式对进行策划及展示学术主题;
有一定政府主办类展览的办展经验,熟悉该类展览特点;
具有丰富的资源整合及项目管理经验,如调动高端专业人员,国内外媒体等。

首届展览旨在向观众揭示当代城市发展的现状,它巧妙利用 1.2 万平米不加修饰的旧厂房群作展场,对旧建筑及其原有用途和记忆的尊重。参展作品强调了建筑与城市的整体和谐和适用性,并对深圳突出的城中村现象进行了专题的观察和研究。
2007(第二届)深港城市 建筑双城双年展(深圳)

第六届双年展首次设立分展场,并深度聚焦珠三角,对在地性城市话题进行了集中探讨。倡导建筑对城市的现状、再利用、再思考和再想象,高度契合深圳打破空间资源约束,为城市可持续发展提供保障的战略。让更多的人认识到要注重利用现有的城市和建筑空间,而非专注于建造更多的建筑,对于深圳具有十分重要的现实意义。
INVITATION FOR CURATOR(S) OF 2017 URBANISM﹨ARCHITECTURE BI-CITY BIENNALE (SHENZHEN)
Shenzhen biennale of urbanismarchitecture Organizing committee (shorten as “Biennale Organizing Committee “)hereby invites your team to submit proposal by way of application for 2017 urbanism﹨architecture bi-city biennale(Shenzhen) and thereof participate as the curator(s).
The Bi-City Biennale is organized by Shenzhen Municipal Government, supported by Urban Planning, Land and Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Media Group, Shenzhen Press Group and Shenzhen University. It is the only international Biennale concerns on UrbanizationArchitecture in the world, interactive cultural event between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
UrbanismArchitecture Bi-City Biennale has set “urbanization” as its long-term theme. Following the clue of urban development and construction activities, through the carrier of urban space and cultural environment, it adopts the expression forms of modern technology and art, combined with the pioneer concept and reality concern, to showcase various city activities and processes accompanying the social transformation, which include city planning practices, architectural design trend, green eco-environmental protection behavior, outcome of technical innovation and harmonious social and cultural construction closely concerned by the government and the general public in China and the world’s urbanization process. It also explores and discusses the study of any urban possibilities and problems, development trends and direction judgment in the interpretation of the spirit of the times. Being professionally, academically and public service oriented, the biennial becomes a permanent international cultural event. Each biennial’s theme is about concerns in China’s urbanization, including but not limited to: 1.City life, space and culture; 2. Time and space of urban development; 3. Urban space humanization; 4. Hot agenda of urbanization of Shenzhen, Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta and China; 5. Important and prospective agenda about global urbanization progress, etc.
In succession to the first Shenzhen Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture in 2005 that initiated the independent curator responsibility system, we successfully invited Yung Ho Chang and Qingyun Ma, two international renowned Chinese architects, Ou Ning, a cross-field cultural practitioner, internationally renowned curator Terence Riley to act as the chief curator and Mr Ole Bouman to act as creative director, Dr. LI Xiangning and Prof.Jeffrey Johnson, to act as academic directors, and Mr. Aaron Betsky, Mr. Alfredo Brillembourg and Mr.Hubert Klumpner , and Ms. Doreen Liu Heng as Curators for these six Biennales respectively, with “City: Open Door”, “City Expiration and Regeneration”, “City Mobilization”,“Architecture creates cities. Cities create architecture.”, ”Urban Border” ,”Re-living the City” as the theme of the exhibition. Discuss the problems in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other cities in the world. The success of these six Shenzhen Biennale reflects the openness, innovation and courage to continue exploring the astonishing rapid development of Shenzhen as a Special Economic Zone. It has initially built an international city and culture and arts communication platform, explores the possibility of founding an art exhibition operational system in accordance with international practices. It also makes a beneficial attempt in developing a cultural brand of Shenzhen and enhancing the city’s cultural competiveness.
Eligibility:
The applicant must be the curator(s) of the proposal. The group applicant can be the executive team consisting of domestic / international curators. The group should designate a team leader.. All submitted materials should be signed and confirmed by its curators.
The applicant institute or individual with the following experiences and resources will be preferred, but these are not the necessary conditions:
1.Possess certain knowledge of China especially Shenzhen in the aspect of city development, have unique insights to Shenzhen and Hong Kong developments, and timely response to current hot issues.
2.Have rich experiences of design or architecture exhibition curatorial, preparation and practices at home and abroad.
3.Have professional background of architecture as well as concerns and unique insights of urbanization. Refine the general architectural model exhibitions and use the art, popular approaches to make the curatorial and demonstrate academic themes.
4.Have certain experiences for exhibitions organized by the government, and be familiar with these exhibition features.
5.Have abundant integrated resources and experiences in project management such as capability to invite the top professionals, domestic and foreign media.

2005 ( 1st )Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism Architecture

The first Shenzhen Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture was held in the OCT-LOFT area, which was renovated from a 12,000 square meters of 1980s industrial factory warehouses within an office and housing development.
The exhibition provided various point of views to explore and understand urbanization and architecture-related humanity and sociology, and also emphasized the overall harmony and sustainability of architecture development and urbanization.
Furthermore, the special phenomenon and striking issues about urban villages were observed and studied in the biennale.
2007 ( 2nd ) Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture ( Shenzhen )
Exhibition Theme:City of Expiration and Regeneration
Exhibition Period:December 8th 2007 – March 9th 2008

The biennale aimed to explore and understand the expiration, aging and regeneration issues of urban architecture. As a turning point, it became a bi-city biennale from this edition. Since the two cities of Shenzhen and Hong Kong shared a neighboring location and salience of urban issues, the joint biennale was proposed to be organized as "one theme, two sites".

The 2009 Biennale set up theme of "City Mobilization" aiming to test the possibility of large-scale, effective social mobilization in an age that lacks centralized force, spiritual solidarity and practical organization, and to create a top biennale which was also accessible for all participation.
2011 ( 4th ) Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture ( Shenzhen )
Exhibition Theme: Architecture creates cities. Cities create architecture.

Mr. Terence Riley was the first non-Chinese curator for the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture(Shenzhen). His influence and international recognition has contributed to the success of the biennale and helped attract worldwide attention.
The exhibition theme portrayed the endless interaction between architecture and cities, and provoked an in-depth discussion on sustainability and urban vitality.
The strong architectural feature and highly professional and international performance of this biennale has won acclaim in and out the industry.

The exhibition theme of "Urban Border" featured the distinctions of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and the biennale has reclaimed two neglected industrial sites in the Shekou, Nanshan District of Shenzhen, transforming them into cutting-edge exhibition spaces.With highly international participation and public interaction, the biennale presented exhibitions and academic forums as well as setting a public education platform. The new program "UABB School" has integrated resources and held a series of free programs/activities for citizens during the exhibition.
The strong architectural feature and highly professional and international performance of this biennale has won acclaim in and out the industry.
2015 (6th ) Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture ( Shenzhen )

Exhibition Period: December 4th, 2015 - February 28th, 2016

It is the first time for UABB to have a subvenue, and put Pearl River Delta in the spotlight. Exhibition advocates reuse, rethink and re-imagination of urban buildings, which is in line with Shenzhen’s strategic sustainable development goals that is geared to meet shortage of space. 2015 UABB aims to educate people about the importance of making use of existing city and building spaces, rather than constructing more buildings, which is very meaningful for Shenzhen.
